Błaszczyk Mirosław Jacek

Jacek Błaszczyk was born in Bytom. A conductor, composer, teacher.

He graduated from the Academy of Music [Akademia Muzyczna] in Katowice where he trained as a choir conductor under Professor Jan Wincenty Hawel;  then he continued his education at the Department of Composition, Conducting and Theory of Music with Professor Karol Stryja.

At present, he is a lecturer at this university; in 2009, he presented his thesis (habilitacja) and qualified as an Assistant Professor in conducting. In 1991, he won the 4th International Grzegorz Fitelberg Conductors Competition [IV Międzynarodowy Konkurs Dyrygentów im. Grzegorza Fitelberga] in Katowice. In the years to follow, he won further numerous awards, scholarships and distinctions. In 1984, he started his career in conducting during which he was invited to conduct many orchestras.

Since May 1998, he has been the artistic director of the Silesian Concert Hall [Filharmonia Śląska] in Katowice and the International Grzegorz Fitelberg Conductor's Competition. He gives concerts on stages of all sizes at home, including the National Hall [Filharmonia Narodowa], and abroad. With the symphonic and chamber orchestras of the Silesial Concert Hall, he makes many records. He is credited with a lot of world premiere performances.

In November 2007, while opening the 8th International Grzegorz Fitelberg Conductor's Competition, he conducted the first performance of the 5th "Advent" Symphony [V Symfonia Adwentowa"] by Wojciech Kilar, composed for the Silesian Concert Hall; he was also the first in the World to record the Magnificat by Wojciech Kilar with the musicians of the Silesian Concert Hall, published by DUX.
