Ptak Barbara

Barbara Ptak was born in Chorzów. An expert in history of clothing, stage designer.

A graduate of the Academy of Arts in Cracow and Warsaw. She has cooperated with all the theatres in Silesia (she feels particularly attached to the Entertainment Theatre [Teatr Rozrywki] in Chorzów) and with many cultural institutions in Poland and abroad. She has implemented over 115 shows from the repertoire of classical drama and musical theatre. She has designed the stage set of over 200  dramas, operas, operettas, musicals and films.

She has cooperated with directors such as: Polański, Kawalerowicz, Kutz, Majewski. Her costumes may be seen in films such as: "Noce i dnie" ["Nights and Days"], "Królowa Bona" ["Queen Bona"], "Ziemia obiecana" ["Promised Land"] and "Nie lubię poniedziałku" ["I do not like Mondays"]. In total, Ptak has designed costumes for over 80 films.

She also lectures in the history of clothes in the Department of Radio and TV in the Silesian University and in the Higher School of Applied Arts in Poznań. 

She is the winner of many awards including: "Golden Masks" of the Silesian Voivodeship (three times), an award of the President of the City of Chorzów and the President of the City of Katowice. In 2008, she collected the silver medal for "Gloria Artis Distinguished Cultural Service" [Zasłużony Kulturze Gloria Artis]".
