The Coal Mining Museum in Zabrze

The Coal Mining Museum [Muzeum Górnictwa Węglowego] in Zabrze is located in a 19th-century historic building of eclectic architecture. Inside there is an iconic Stained-Glass Room, the former meeting place for the District Assembly.

The Museum has an abundant collection (approximately thirty thousand artefacts) related to the history, technology and culture of mining  (historic tools, devices, fossils, mining machines, archive technical drawings, maps, photos, documents religious paintings, prayer books, objects connected with the worship of Saint Barbara, costumes, etc.).

The Queen Luiza Open-Air Mining Ethnographic Park [Skansen Górniczy "Królowa Luiza"], with a preserved spatial layout of the mine from the second half of the 19th century, along with a part of buildings and equipment, and the Zmiękczalnia Gallery, located in this area, also belong to the Museum.

The Museum supports the activities of the Silesian Film Club [Klub Filmu Śląskiego] "Szybowskaz", it participates in the Industriada and in the Museums' Night [Noc Muzeów], and organises the Mini-Festival of Alternative Music [Minifestiwal Muzeów Alternatywnej ].
