The Szombierki Combined Heat and Power Plant in Bytom

The Szombierki Combined Heat and Power Plant [Elektrociepłownia Szombierki] is the historical building of the former industrial plant in Bytom. The Plant was built in 1920 pursuant to the design of Emil and Georg Zillman.

The building, considered as one of seven architectural miracles of the Silesian Province, was adapted into a place of many cultural events. The spacious interior of the Szombierki Heat and Power Plant hosts: Dance Conference [Konferencja Tańca], Museums' Night [Noc Muzeów], Bytom Blues Power [Bytormska Moc Bluesa], High Art Festival [Festiwal Sztuki Wsyokiej ], Festival "Theater Mania" ["Teatromania"], Gala of Great Maestros of Music [Gala Wielkich Mistrzów Muzyki], Industriada (the Combined Heat and Power Plant is on the Industrial Monuments Route [Szlak Zabytków Techniki]).

The wonderful, modernist building with tapering facades and windows, the clock tower and enormous halls (of the engine room and the boiler room) often serve as a place for photographic sessions and even as film location (documentary "Gospodarz" ["Host"], about General Jerzy Ziętek). You can access the building by a historic narrow gauge railway, in the care of the Upper Silesian Narrow Gauge Railway Society [Stowarzyszenie Górnośląskich Kolei Wąskotorowych].

In connection with the take-over of the building by the new owner and start-up of production, the building is awaiting a new stage of operations.
