The Katowice Muchowiec Airport
The Katowice Muchowiec Airport is a civil sports airport situated 277m above the sea level.
In the 1930s, a passenger terminal was opened, and until 1958 LOT passenger aircraft regularly landed there. In the subsequent years the air traffic was regularly suspended, among other reasons as a result of mining damage (cracked concrete runway).
Currently, the airport is used mainly by aviation clubs. The administrator of the airport is the Aviation Club of Silesia [Aeroklub Śląski], and lessee - the Aviation Club of Poland [Aeroklub Polski]. Different events are often organized, e.g. concerts, music festivals (Maj Music Festival, OFF Festival), and other events, such as e.g. the Silesian Fest of Uniformed Services [Śląski Festyn Służb Mundurowych] are organised within the airport premises.
