The G. G. Gorczycki International Festival

The G. G. Gorczycki International Festival is held in a dozen or so cities of the Silesian Voivodeship  in April. The name of the Festival originates from the surname of a composer and conductor from the turn of the 17th and 18th century, Grzegorz Gerwazy Gorczycki, born in Rozbark, a present district of Bytom. Due to his functions in the church, Gorczycki created mainly religious compositions and today is considered one of the biggest composers of the Polish Baroque.

A few dozen concerts are held during the Festival. Every year, an extraordinary program is prepared that features virtuoso performances of soloists,. During the Festival premieres of compositions are also held. An unquestionable trump card of the Festival is the participation of world format stars, e.g. American pianist Kevin Kenner - the winner of the 13th Frederic Chopin International Piano Contest [Międzynarodowy Konkurs Pianistyczny im. Fryderyka Chopina]. The main organiser is the Association [Stowarzyszenie], but several Silesian institutions are co-organisers.

The Festival office has been located in the Department of Culture and Sports [Wydział Kultury i Sportu] of the Municipal Office in Bytom, on the Market. The event is patronised by the "Silesia" Metropolia.
